New Beginnings: Set Your Goals the Right Way

New Year, Same You?

Forget a New Year's Resolution, Just do it!

Planning for the New Year can be hard when you don’t know exactly what you are planning. And with the uncertainties that we have experienced in the last 2 years, we are all on the fence about making such plans. Many have even come to the belief that it is unnecessary to make plans at all. Now, I do believe that we cannot be so strung out with our plans, that we forget the small things, but I also believe that it is still imperative to be somewhat prepared for things to happen. Despite life’s uncertainties, having some sort of plan can be the difference between where we currently are and where we want to be.

LIST YOUR GOALS

First things first, write a list of goals you want to accomplish. These goals can be goals that you want to obtain within the next 6 months, year, or even 5 years. Writing your goals will help you to visually see what you want to do, so that you are conscious of what needs to be done. Writing your goals is like taking your dreams and putting them into action. It takes the mere idea or thought and begins to add life to it. My tip would be to write down goals that are measurable such as building a better credit score, buying a house, finding a better job, graduating college, etc.

Once you create your list, you can then prioritize the order of goals. What can be done asap? What are the resources that you will need to obtain these goals?

CREATE AND TRACK YOUR PROCESSES

The next step is to take a look at your goals and narrow down the top 5-10 goals that can be obtained within the next 12 months or so. From here, focus on writing the steps for reaching each goal. What do you need to do? Where do you need to go? (i.e. meeting with credit building agency, doing market research for mortgage rates). Your processes will guide you step by step into goal completion and it is measurable. Meaning, each step will have some type of sense of completion, whether it be in monetary or paper or morality.

Do your research.

ACT ON IT

Writing down a process will not just give your brain the visual breakdown of your goals but it will build motivation within you. Seeing a step by step process will give you the relief that you are on track and taking the right steps. To be successful in your goals, it goes beyond just writing and feeling them out. It takes heart, action, bravery and diligence. Starting the year off right means starting now, even if you read this a day after the new year, or months later, you have to start right where you are. Don’t just say you want to do it, do it!

WANT MORE?

WRITE YOURSELF A FUTURE LETTER

Take some quiet and alone time so that you can properly relax and dig deep. Write a letter addressed to yourself with the date of December 31, 2022. In this letter use present tense such as I am statements while also using past statements such as I am grateful for this (event/item/love) this year. I loved this and that. I am grateful to have made it through (this) obstacle that arose this year.

TIP: Write with your goals in mind, write from a place of feeling "it's already done."

Write as much as you need to write but above all feel gratefulness. This feeling of gratefulness will create an environment, thoughts and feelings of abundance and appreciation in an energetic way that almost demands change.

WHY YOU NEED TO BE LIKE NIKE, AND JUST DO IT

To sum, preparing for a new year is just like preparing for anything else in your life. What do you really want? What do you want to change and how can it happen?

We must first look within ourselves to determine what it is that we need, and how we can get to the next level (whatever that may be). The key is to take accountability, it all starts with you.

Be blessed, and enjoy everyday as if your preparing for a new year.

-With love, Mss Raven
